Behind the Bars Wrap

Behind the Bars by Brittainy C. Cherry

Release Date: December 7th, 2017 Genre: Contemporary Romance

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.

I was the awkward musician, and she was the high school queen.

The only things we had in common were our music and our loneliness.

Something in her eyes told me her smile wasn’t always the truth.

Something in her voice gave me a hope I always wished to find.

And in a flash, she was gone.

Years later, she was standing in front of me on a street in New Orleans.

She was different, but so was I. Life made us colder. Harder. Isolated.

Caged.

Even though we were different, the broken pieces of me recognized the sadness in her.

Now she was back, and I wouldn’t make the mistake of letting her go again.

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.

When we met again, she was the darkest storm.

This book. This couple. This author. *sigh*

“We weren’t meant to fall for one another, but when we blended together we were some kind of beautiful.”

Have you ever looked at a cover and just knew something special laid behind it? Something breathtakingly spectacular? Behind the Bars was exactly that—pure magic. A ride you won't soon forget.

Ms. Cherry tackles the very sensitive subject of bullying and the consequences/rewards that may or may not go along with it. She'll touch on gut wrenching responses and reactions that will leave many devastated and broken beyond repair.

Enter Elliott and Jasmine.

Their journey is a poignant one, full of profound, dimension and substance. Between their pages lied an emotional wreckage. From start to finish, their relationship was overflowing with intense emotion, affliction, and refection. There were sacrifices made and brutal truths found. Which will lay waste to not only them but to even the hardest of hearts.

There was more than meets the eye to Eli and Jazz. So many layers unwound with each turn of the page. Usually I find I love one character more than the other, but not this time. This duo shares my love and admiration equally. Their strength and weaknesses balanced each other out. When one was down for the count, the other was there to pick them back up and dust them off.

We talk a lot about insta in the reading world. Some love it, others hate it. I have to say, nothing was instant for this couple; not their friendship, not their love, not their forgiveness, and most definitely not their resolution. Jazz and Eli had to work hard at everything, and their survival didn’t happen overnight.

You won’t just experience their love, friendship, and heartache you will live and breathe it. They will consume you, even weeks after you close the book. And upon finishing the last word, you'll need time to process all that is Elliott and Jasmine.

Another one of my many loves was the lack of detailed, graphic sex. Behind the Bars carried itself with plot, character development, and connection. It carried itself with actual story, instead of writing in sex as a filler, every other page. Don’t get me wrong, Jasmine and Elliott do hit the sheets, but that naughty doesn’t push them into the background, taking over the focus. And I seriously did not miss this.

Brittainy Cherry proved without a shadow of a doubt that less really is more.

If that wasn’t enough, the secondary players were also fricken amazing! Their roles just as pivotal as our MCs. JT, Laura, and especially Jazz’s father, Ray, gave us that added somethin’ somethin’ needed to take an already stunning story into phenomenal territory. The love, support, patience, and dedication each one showed was awe-inspiring. Everybody should have a Laura, JT, and Ray in their life.

As you can see, I HIGHLY recommend this book. But not only that, I HIGHLY recommend this author. Ms. Cherry is quite unique. Each story different from the ones told before it. Her mind is a fascinating place you’ll never get enough of. And her words are poetry in motion.
